Dr. Harvey Risch is Professor Emeritus and Senior Research Scientist in Epidemiology at the Yale School of Public Health and Yale School of Medicine and editor of the International Journal of Cancer.
Dr. Risch’s research focuses on epidemiological approaches to understanding cancer etiology, prevention, and early diagnosis. He is particularly interested in studying cancer risk factors related to the immune system, genetics, and environmental exposures, as well as reproductive and histopathologic factors in cancer etiology. Dr. Risch’s research projects, which have received funding from the National Cancer Institute, have significantly contributed to the understanding of ovarian, pancreatic, lung, bladder, esophageal, and stomach cancers, as well as cancers related to the use of oral contraceptives and noncontraceptive estrogens.
Dr. Risch is a fellow of the American College of Epidemiology and a member of the Connecticut Academy of Science and Engineering. He formerly served as associate editor of the Journal of the National Cancer Institute and as a member of the Board of Editors of the American Journal of Epidemiology.
Dr. Risch received his undergraduate degree in mathematics and biology from the California Institute of Technology. He received his medical degree from the University of California San Diego and his doctoral degree from the University of Chicago.
